About the Author
Rabbi Eliezer Shemtov was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1961. He developed his writing and communication skills at the Educational Institute Oholei Torah. He received rabbinical ordination from the United Lubavitcher Yeshivoth in Brooklyn, New York, in 1984. Rabbi Shemtov and his wife, Rochel, were sent by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, to Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1985, shortly after they were married, in order to establish and direct Chabad Lubavitch activities there. They and their seven children reside there to this day. Chabad of Uruguay has played a central role in the revival and strengthening of Jewish life and identity in that country through its many innovative programs and publications. For several years, Rabbi Shemtov was one of the pioneering scholars that manned the revolutionary website Askmoses.com, founded and maintained by Chabad of California.
