The first story, for example, introduces readers to the Goodman family. The second, The Clock, to how they spend the day. The third, as a final example, The Washing Machine, has the machine discuss how it can tell what the Goodman children ate and what they played with during the day. The stories also introduce readers to some Jewish holidays and customs.
