Enliven you next Seder or Passover meal with a selection of mouth-watering desserts from Penny Wantuck Eisenberg's new cookbook, Amazing Passover Desserts!
This is a completely revised and updated version of her celebrated book, Passover Desserts. The recipes in this new cookbook have been simplified to speed up preparation and cooking time, which is a big plus for today's busy cooks! As well, old recipes have been updated, and fifty new illustrations have been added to the book.
From a wide selection of cheesecake recipes to decorating tips, this cookbook has everything you'll need to easily create desserts that look and taste like they came right from the bakery or from the kitchen of a master pastry chef. Eisenberg's instructions are clear and easy to follow, and I think that you'll find that you already have most of the basic ingredients already in your pantry. For those ingredients that you don't already have, you should find them easy to come by at your local kosher grocery store. For those that do not have access to a Kosher grocery store, or who simply prefer to do their shopping online, Eisenberg has included links to various merchants that sell their product via the Internet.
In addition to the recipes, Eisenberg has also included a wealth of helpful tips that will not only prove useful in helping you recreate the desserts in this book, but which can also be applied to everyday cooking. Many of these tips are particularly relevant for kosher cooks, such as the special techniques you need to master when using Kosher gelatins in certain circumstances and how to ensure that the ingredients you are using are Kosher for Passover.
The recipes in this cookbook are organized into topical chapters, including cookies and bars, cheesecakes, pastries, tortes, cakes, ice cream, fruit, and sauces. In addition, there are chapters devoted to related subjects such as dietary guidelines for Passover, equipment, ingredients, decorating basics, and much more. In short, this is a comprehensive cookbook that will truly help you to create amazing Passover desserts. Throughout I found the recipes easy to prepare, and the results have been spectacular - many of these deserts are sure to become year round family favorites! With the wide range of recipes in this cookbook, you are sure to find something to please even the most picky of sweat tooths. Best of all, Eisenberg's detailed and step-by-step instructions will ensure that even novice cooks can follow these recipes with success, while at the same time these recipes will also enhance and expand the repertoire of even the most seasoned of cooks.
Amazing Passover Desserts is contained on a CD-ROM that will run on any personal computer with a CD drive. The actual, 191 page cookbook is presented in PDF format, and it can be read on any computer with Adobe Reader or other software program that will open a PDF file. If you do not have Adobe Reader, it can be downloaded for free from www.adobe.com. In addition, all of the recipes are conveniently hyperlinked from the table of contents, and from the chapter headings, for easy reference and for 'jumping' directly to the recipe you are looking for. Best of all, not only is this book a snap to navigate through, you can also print out any recipe you want. Instructions on how to navigate the book, and print out the recipes, are included.
I have to admit, that not only do I like to cook, but I also like to simply sit back and read cookbooks, both for inspiration and just for the pleasure of reading an interesting book. I was not sure that I would like reading a cookbook on CD, but I found the experience to be most pleasant and browsing though this cookbook was actually just as easy, if not easier, than flipping through a printed version. As a cook, I also liked that I could easily print out any recipe I wanted - and best of all - this format enables you to make the font size bigger when I printed it out so that it would be easier to see when looking over a table filled with ingredients!
I highly recommend Amazing Passover Desserts to anyone looking to introduce some new Passover desserts to their repertoire. This cookbook also makes an ideal gift for those just setting up housekeeping or for that favorite cook in your life.
