Once on Friday afternoon Rav Shlomo Zalman was on his way to shul when someone stopped him on the street and wished him a "Ah Gut Shabbos". Rav Shlomo Zalman replied that since Rabbi Akiva Eiger holds that one is Mikabel Shabbos by saying "Gut Shabbos" he shouldn't say it before mincha since mincha is a weekday davening and it is an inherent contradiction.

Explained R' Shlomo Zalaman although we don't pasken like R' Akiva Eiger, nevertheless his holy words should not be ignored. The solution he offered is to say "Ah Gutten Erev Shabbos" with the word Erev mumbled quietly to yourself, if you prefer. (V'Aleihu Lo Yibol)
